In my first year of the Gen-1 program, I learned how to commit to the live, learn, give, and earn pillar. We learned about service learning co-op, scholarships, and many program opportunities connected with UC.

While being part of Gen-1, we have had two ceremonies, played dodgeball, had a Kova ice truck, game nights, yoga, and many more fun activities that allowed us first-generation students to bond during our time together.

The Gen-1 experience involved sharing the same living space and possibly the same classes, committing to team-bonding activities, and taking the first step into adult responsibilities such as living on your own and getting up every day for class.

The Gen-1 program has opened realize that only a few students know all the great opportunities. Through Gen-1, I learned about the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program, which will help prepare me for graduate school. I am proud to say that I went through the application process, and thanks to the Gen-1 staff and peers, I will begin the program in the fall.
